Updated 2026-2027 school day start times

The 2026-2027 school year will bring noteworthy changes to the Fairport Central School District. In September 2026, our ninth grade students will begin their high school careers at a consolidated Fairport High School and the entire District (grades K-12) will shift the school day’s start and end times to better align with best practices for student health and wellbeing.
Through close collaboration and analysis with our Transportation Department, the District has developed an updated bell and transportation schedule for the 2026-2027 school year. This updated schedule streamlines the District’s daily transportation schedule by moving school bus runs to a two-tiered system, instead of the three-tiered schedule currently in effect.

The District considered feedback from families, staff and administrators in the development of this updated schedule. This updated schedule brings all of Fairport’s elementary schools on to one transportation tier and the middle schools and Fairport High School on a secondary tier. The updated schedule also shifts the school day start and end times at the secondary level (6-12) to 8:40 a.m. and 3:25 p.m., respectively.
Work on the updated schedule, along with the consolidation of ninth grade into Fairport High School, is ongoing. Please take a moment to refamiliarize yourself with the District’s process, research and communications related to the shift in school start and end times.
Wrap-around care and partnership with the YMCA
As the District has shared with families, the 2026-2027 shift in school start and end times also includes the expansion of the partnership between the YMCA of Greater Rochester and the District to provide affordable before- and after-school wrap care for Fairport families right in our Fairport schools. The District and the YMCA have had a long and successful collaboration providing care to our Fairport students after the school day in our facilities and as a community partner. The network of resources and scholarships available to families through the YMCA is second to none and we are proud to connect our Fairport families with the care provided by the Y.
Over the next several weeks, the YMCA will share more information on the 2026-2027 school year’s wrap care availability, including details on scheduling, rates and programming.
I am proud of the collaborative nature of this process; none of the District’s decisions to shift start and end times K-12 has been made in a vacuum. This shift is a paradigm change for Fairport families. The District believes that this time change will benefit students. We will continue to be intentional and communicative as we look ahead to the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. Please stay tuned for further updates.
