Biography   Mr. Mike Barker is in his 24th year as a social studies teacher. This is his 21st year teaching at the Johanna Perrin Middle School. Previously he taught at Fairport High School and at the Newark Middle School. He also teaches in the summer STAR Program.   Mr. Barker has been the Lead Social Studies Teacher at Johanna Perrin since 1995. He has been the director of the 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. for over a decade. He founded and ran the Johanna Perrin Extreme Sports Club for a decade. He has served as an advisor for the JP Ski Club, Yorker's Local History Club, and as an Odyssey of the Mind advisor. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John Fisher College and a Master of Science degree from Nazareth College of Rochester.      Mr. Barker is a life-long resident of the Perinton/Fairport Community. He and his wife Jody, have four children. Their oldest daughter Amanda is a graduate of Fairport High School and Seton Hall University. She graduated from the Masters program at Nazareth College of Rochester. She was an English Teacher at Edison Tech High School and Charlotte High School in the Rochester City School District the last two years. She has re-located to Northern Virginia and is teaching in Prince George, Maryland now. Their son David is a graduate of Fairport High School and West Virginia University. David has enlisted in the United States NAVY to be an Air/Rescue Swimmer.Their daughter Maggie is a graduate of Fairport High School and is a senior at St. John Fisher College. Their daughter Katie is a 2010 graduate of Fairport High School and a member of the 2008 Section V Champion Fairport Women's Soccer Team (pictured below). Katie just completed her freshman year at SUNY Cortland. She has transferred to Nazareth College for her sophmore year.   Fairport Red Raider Wrestling Pain is temporary, Pride is forever...
 Mr. Barker retired in 2007 after 19 years as a Coach of the Fairport High School Wrestling Team. Coach Barker served as the Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Modified Coach during his nineteen year tenure with the wrestling program. Mr. Barker still volunteers his time with the wrestling program. He likes to help Head Coach Mike Kohl whenever possible. In 2010 Coach Barker became the announcer at FHS for the Varsity Wrestling Team. Coach Barker has really enjoyed his experience as the Voice of the RED RAIDER'S. Coach Barker and JV Head Coach Jim Nunez took 16 varsity wrestlers to the Oswego Holiday Tournament in 2008. Coach Barker helped Coach Nunez in 2009 & 2010 & 2011 at the Monroe County Junior Varsity Tournament. Coach Barker has helped his former wrestler Rob Unger with the Youth Fairport Wrestling Club. Coach Barker loves being in the corner of the mats and coaching whenever possible.  Some of Coach Barker's favorite moments as a coach have been having the opportunity to coach members of his own family. He has coached his son David (pictured above with his Dad) and his nephew Zack Barker. He also coached his nephews Sean (pictured above with his uncle Mike),Corey, Brian and Jesse Sechrist.  Mr. Barker has been lucky the last two seasons to have helped Head Coach Jim Nunez with the Fairport Modified Blue Baseball Team. He was able to coach his nephew Zack Barker on last years squad.     Mr. Barker has been involved in local government since 1988 in many various roles. He has been an appointed and an elected official for the Village of Fairport. He was twice elected to the Perinton Town Council. He is currently a member of the Monroe County Legislature representing the 11th district in the legislature. He has been elected to the legislature three times. In 2010 he was made the Vice-President of the Legislature.He is pictured above with Dennis Hastert the former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. Just like Mr. Barker the former Congressman was a social studies teacher and wrestling coach.      Mr. Barker's favorite things to do are spend time with his family and dog Lincoln. His kids and his dog love outdoor activities. Mr. Barker also loves to read (mostly non-fiction). He is also an avid sports fan.
