About Bailey and the Book
About Bailey We all know people who make us better for having known them. For many, Bailey Goodman was one of those rare people. And while perfect relationships are hard to find, Bailey had a way of making you think that the one you two shared was one of the few perfect ones. Bailey had enough love and compassion to make even the most nerve-wracking situations seem positive. Her outlook on life was a unique one that most people are not lucky enough to share. Bailey adored her family, cared deeply for her friends, and made everything she encountered seem amazingly fun. She was always determined, at times sarcastic, and constantly finding excuses to shop ‘til she dropped. While she knew the world was not perfect, Bailey worked to make it a better place while in the classroom, as an athlete, and as a leader with the Fairport-Perinton Healthy Communities-Healthy Youth Developmental Assets® Initiative. About the Book Since the asset initiative meant so much to Bailey, her family designated the program as recipient of contributions made in her memory. The donations are funding a project that both engages the community in a meaningful way and represents Bailey’s personality and values. Bailey’s Book: A Community Celebrates Its Assets, is a compilation of essays and pictures submitted by Fairport students and community members last fall. Each essay and picture submitted incorporated at least one of the 40 developmental assets identified by the initiative. Excerpts from Bailey’s school writing assignments will be interspersed throughout the book in a way the helps people discover what made Bailey special. Students participated in the classroom and also contributed essays through this site. Community members were also invited to contribute on the “How to Submit” page. We received hundreds of entries, all of which touched our hearts! Bailey’s Book will be available for distribution and purchase. The book is currently at the publishers. We hope to have it available mid to late spring of 2010. Individuals whose contributions are selected for publication will receive a complimentary copy. What are the Assets? The Fairport-Perinton Healthy Communities-Healthy Youth Developmental Assets® Initiative’s vision is to create a world where all young people are valued and thrive. The 40 developmental assets were identified by Search Institute, a leading global innovator in discovering what children and adolescents need to become caring, healthy, and responsible adults. Drawing on extensive research, it brings hopeful solutions to pressing challenges in the lives of young people and their communities.
