Brooks Hills Physical Education
Brooks Hill Physical Education Spring is here and summer is around the corner. As construction takes place at Brooks Hill, the physical education department will do its best to continue quality classes for all students. It will be a challenge to teach two classes in one space but we are optimistic about the challenge. New at Brooks Hill... Swimming anyone?? Our third grade classes are taking a trip to MD pool for an opportunity to swim during their PE class time. We are making history at Fairport as no elementary class has EVER swam during school. We look forward to making this an annual part of our physical education curriculum. As drowning is highest among adolescents, our program hopes to help decrease this statistic. Students are loving it and it brings us great pleasure to know our students will be safer around water this summer. On a positive note, our third grade teachers have reported that students maintain better focus after swimming, proving that exercise enhances academics. Enjoy the warm days and get swimming!!
Campout For Kids 2008 was a success! Thank you to all who donated money, food and clothing. Stay tuned to see what we come up with for next year. (Campout 2007: Alissa Vanmulem, Jeff Lovier, & Lynne Leary)
HISTORY: This was the second annual Campout for Kids that the Brooks Hill Physical Education staff has done. The PE Staff camped and sleept outside of Brooks Hill School to collect “cans, coats and coins” for this year’s recipients. The outpouring of support from the community was overwhelming and donations this year were amazing. THIS YEAR’S RECIPIENTS: Hannah’s Hope: Hannah Congdon was a 2007 graduate of Fairport High School that was tragically died in a car accident just after graduation. She had a passion for helping others and after a visit to Kenya, she fell in love with their children. There has been a Montessori school there named for her and all donations will go directly her school. Ann Brown Scott School #19: This is a Rochester City School that would greatly benefit from gently used coats and boots. Many of their students have to walk to school in the winter without something to keep them warm. Perinton Food Shelf: A local organization helping local families in need of every day items, especially food and personal care items.
Brooks Hill is committed to creating "life long movers!" Life time fitness is important to each of us. We hope our students have fun moving and that they want to continue to be “movers” outside of school. We are also committed to fostering an atmosphere of respect, responsibility, honesty, and acceptance. We hope that you encourage your children, and your children may encourage you to walk together. families that walk together, talk together!
*Thank you for visiting our web site. It is still a work in progress, but we hope you take a minute to navigate your way through. Please let us know if there is something that you would like to see. We hope to have pictures and video links up in the near future too!
