Amid the many activities on your May calendar, we hope you’ve added the School Budget Vote and Board of Education election on Tuesday, May 20. This is your opportunity to participate in your district as we prepare for 2008-09.

Below is a summary of what’s on the ballot. For more detailed information, click on the 2008-09 Budget in the left column.

BUDGET: The proposed 2008-09 budget is $101.3 million which translates to a 2.6% increase in local funding needed. In this budget, the focus is on literacy, technology, assessment, and student support within the guide of budgeting for quality.

PROPOSITIONS: There will be two propositions on the ballot. Proposition 1 is for bus replacement and Proposition 2 is for technology replacement.

BOARD OF EDUCATION CANDIDATES
Five candidates are running for three seats on the Board: Matthew J. DiRisio, Edward Hensel, Douglas Hunt, Joyce Kostyk, and Terri Pries. FACT-12 is airing Meet-the-Candidates Night on Friday and Monday at 9 p.m.

Fairport Rotary is holding a computer and electronic equipment recycling day.

 

WHEN: Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

 

WHERE: North Parking Lot of Perinton Community Center, 1350 Turk Hill Rd

 

WHAT’S ACCEPTED: monitors, PCs, laptops, PS2s, XBox, printers, DVRs/VCRs, phones, and more

 

What’s NOT accepted: refrigerators, microwave ovens, other household appliances

 

COST: FREE drop off (except a $5 charge for each TV)

 

BENEFIT: Camp Haccamo, the Rotary summer camp for handicapped kids; cash donation will also be gratefully accepted
